BACKGROUND:
The government of India has targeted the growth of Indian Economy to reach $5 Trillion by 2024-25. Accordingly Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has also fixed a target for airfreight industry in India to grow from the current 3.15 Million Tonnes (2021-22) to 10 Million Tonnes by the year 2030-31 with YOY growth rate of 13,5% CAGR.
To achieve this growth target of 10 Million Mts by 2030-31 many initiatives have been launched under the PM “Gati Shakti” mission to create world-class infrastructure by integrating major decision-making Ministries that will boost our country’s “Ease of Doing Business” index.
Ministry of Civil Aviation is spearheading the task to drive the growth in airfreight business and reach the above-mentioned target on or before 2030-31. The Hon’ble Minister of Civil Aviation, Sh. Jyotiraditya Madhav Rao Scindia during a meeting of the Cargo Advisory Group held on 5th Sept 2022 has accepted the suggestions of ACFI to work on the Cargo Udaan concept to achieve the targeted growth of air cargo in India. In this regard as directed by MoCA, Air Cargo Forum India (ACFI) is working on the preparation of a white paper on Cargo Udaan (as directed by MoCA) by seeking responses/inputs from various Exporters, Importers, Manufacturers, Traders of the country.
